Joel William Townsend, 94, of Placida, Fla., died Monday, Sept. 30, 2013.

He was born Nov. 17, 1918, in Mount Carmel, Ill., and came to this area in 1993 from Macon, Ga.

Joel was an Attorney, and was a Law Judge for the State administration office for the State of Illinois. Joel was a member of B.P.O. Elks Lodge 2710 in Rotonda West, Fla., where he served as Treasurer and an active member. He was a Veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Navy.

Joel is survived by his wife of 22 years, Janet; two daughters, Joann Welch of Boca Grande, Fla., and Deborah Garrigan of Tarpon Springs, Fla.; his four grandchildren, Leecia, Erin, Samuel and Andrew; and his two great-grandsons, Fifer and Renly.

Visitation will be held from 1 p.m. until services conducted by the Elks Lodge at 3 p.m. Friday, Oct. 4, 2013, at Lemon Bay Funeral Home in Englewood, Fla. Graveside services and burial will take place at Highland Memorial Cemetery in Mount Carmel. You may express your condolences to the family at www.lemonbayfh.com.
