Dudley Clyde Brewster, 86, passed away peacefully Friday, March 8, 2013, in Venice, Fla.

He was born in Knob Noster, Mo., July 25, 1926, the son of Clyde and Daisy (nee Bugbee) Brewster.

Dudley attended school in Jefferson City, Mo., and was an active Boy Scout throughout much of his youth. At the age of 17, Dudley convinced his parents to allow him to enlist in the U.S. Navy, and served throughout the Pacific Theater on the USS Gage, until the end of World War II. After enlistment, Dudley returned to Jefferson City, where he completed his educational studies. Following graduation, Dudley traveled to Idaho, and worked with the state forest service for two summers. Dec. 21, 1950, Dudley married Geraldine Hawley in Jefferson City. After graduating from the Missouri State Police Academy, he was assigned to several different locations as a Missouri State Trooper. Following a short vacation out to Wyoming in 1956, Dudley relocated his family to Casper, Wyo. There he joined the Casper Police Department, where he served for 20 years, and retired having earned the rank of Lieutenant. During that time, Dudley also taught driver’s education classes at Casper College for many years. Still young and energetic after retiring from the Casper Police Department, he joined the Natrona County Sheriff’s Department as a Deputy Sheriff, and served until again retiring in 1991. Encouraged out of retirement one last time, he was employed by the Diamond Group Security Company and was charged with recruiting, training and staffing security officers for all Federal Buildings within the state. Dudley took great pride in his many roles as a law enforcement officer, going so far as to receive advanced scuba diver training, where he often employed those skills to conduct search-and-rescue operations for the Sheriff’s Department. He was a highly skilled marksman and participated in numerous law enforcement shooting competitions with his fellow officers.

When not working, Dudley enjoyed taking his young family camping, fishing, and on picnic and swimming outings, to Thermopolis Hot Springs and other state and national parks. For many years, Dudley also served in leadership positions with local Boy Scouts of America troops. In his later years, his interests turned to foreign travel, scuba diving adventures throughout the Caribbean, casino trips, motorcycle riding, history, a coffee club with special friends, and his ever-lasting support for the Denver Broncos. Dudley truly had a genuine zest for life, and was graced with an engaging, loving personality, and a wonderful sense of humor. After finally deciding to retire his well-used snow-blower, Dudley moved to the warm shores of southwestern Florida, where he lived near his son for a number of years. Following several serious health-related issues, Dudley moved a short distance away to the Pinebrook Care facility in Venice. While there, he was assisted by their wonderful and caring staff of health care professionals. For their perpetual friendship, thoughtful concern and caring for Dudley, his family is eternally grateful.

Dudley is survived by his son, Steven (Evonne Pugh) Brewster of Placida, Fla.; daughter, Marla (Bruce) Heberlein of Casper; grandchildren, Sharla Norvelle and Shawn Tescher of Casper; five great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; sisters, Beverly Scheulen and Lorna Wyss of Jefferson City; and several nephews and nieces.
