Thanks to a discovery years ago by Ed Woolverton, the “secret” mangrove tunnels just off Cat Fish Creek in Placida are a popular tourist attraction. Now 97, he says he is happy the trail is his legacy to kayaking enthusiasts.

As one who always relished learning new things, Ed Woolverton traveled to Finland to learn how to make birchbark crafts. Now 97, he still makes exercise and learning a priority.
