The beat goes on at Elsie Quirk Library

K ids and teens ages 7 to 16 years old are invited to “The Roots of Rhythm Music Workshop” at 10:30 a.m. Saturday. Participants will learn the concept of Afro-Cuban drumming through hands-on experiences using drums and percussion instruments. Basic techniques and polyrhythms will be explored. Previous drumming experience is not necessary. This workshop is made possible through a partnership between the Arts and Cultural Alliance of Sarasota County and the Sarasota County Library System. Please go to www.sclibs.net/library and register for the workshop on the calendar. Also at 10 a.m., come “Learn to Knit” with instructors from The Knitting Group. This program is open for all ages 9 to adult. Bring your knitting needles size #9 or #10 and yarn is provided. No registration is required.

Enjoy a Free Monday Night Movie on the big screen at 5 p.m. This film tells the story of a British artist who flees to the village of Hope in New England to bury himself in his art after being dumped by his fiancée. The hotel owner plays matchmaker and introduces him to a local girl. Romance ensues, though his ex may be looking to reunite. The film stars Colin Firth, Heather Graham and Minnie Driver and is rated PG-13.
