From 1983 to 1988, I pastored Living Waters Assembly of God in Greenfield, Mass. The last Sunday evening in August, the same church family hosted a corn roast. The event was always well-attended. Beside all the corn on the cob they could eat, those attending filled their plates from a tasty variety of casseroles, assorted vegetable dishes, a selection of meats and a full table of delicious desserts.
First United Methodist Church in Bushnell, Fla., my pastorate from 2001 to 2006, sponsored a similar August meal. The corn central to each of these meal fellowships is the key topic in Jesus’ Mark 4:26-29 teaching parable.
