The Charlotte Local Education Foundation selected 11 students to participate in the Take Stock in Children program. The organization works with the students throughout their high school careers to maintain at least a 2.5 grade-point average, stay out of trouble and off drugs, and meet weekly with a mentor. When the students graduate from high school, they will receive a college tuition scholarship that has been purchased through the Florida Prepaid Foundation using dollar-for-dollar state match money.
Mentoring is a key part of the success of this program. Mentors meet once a week at the student’s school. The Charlotte Local Education Foundation is now recruiting mentors for these students.
