Gulf shores still on a red tide alert

On Manasota Key Thursday, Zoe Bass saw no signs of red tide, crediting an east wind for pushing the effects of the algal bloom offshore. Bass oversees the Coastal Wildlife Club’s volunteer sea turtle patrols.

While concentrations of red tide have not reached levels where officials worry about health issues, that doesn’t mean the threat from the toxic algae can be dismissed.
