The DeSoto County boys’ JV basketball team was coasting along this season with a perfect 8-0 record. Then the Red Devils from Avon Park came to Arcadia on Jan. 11 and knocked them out of the unbeaten ranks with a 61-59 win.
Head Coach Ryan Kelley had missed the first game of the week against Lake Placid as the Bulldogs rolled 51-36 behind Keishawn Washington’s 17 points and Tywan Daniels’ 10. Varsity Coach Richard Koonce pulled double duty as Kelley had a couple of days off. Kelley’s wife Melissa gave birth to their first child a few days earlier. They named her Charlotte.
