The DeSoto County boys’ varsity soccer team followed the girl’s varsity team onto the pitch for a rare “varsity only” doubleheader. The boys witnessed the girls’ team roll to a mercy rule 8-0 win. Not to be outdone, the boys also ran up the mercy rule on the Red Devils and won 8-0 on an exciting and memorable senior night.

Because of no JV game, three members of that squad were promoted to the varsity for the game. One of those players, Eric Cortez, led the scoring with two goals. “Whether I play on the varsity or JV I will give 100 percent all the time. It doesn’t matter if I go up or down, I’m having fun,” said Cortez.
