Claude Elmer “CE” Thompson, 96, passed away Thursday, Sept. 19, 2013, in Arcadia, Fla.

He was born April 8, 1917, in Linden, Fla., and moved to Arcadia 40 years ago from Miami, Fla.

During his working career, CE was a pipe fitter for FEC Railroad. He was a veteran, serving our country in the United States Navy. In his retirement years he enjoyed gardening, playing croquet and horseshoes.

CE is survived by his loving wife of 72 years, Janice H. Matthews Thompson of Arcadia; two sons, Tommy (Bonnie) Thompson of High Pointe, N.C., and Evan (Ingrid) Thompson of Oregon; four daughters, Linda Willard of High Pointe, Joy (Marcus) Norman of Starke, Fla., Diane Whitmier of Atlanta, Ga., and Donna Weathersby of Tifton, Ga.; sister, Nell Csonka of Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.; 14 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Clayton and Sattsi Allen Thompson; and three siblings.

The funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. today, Saturday, Sept. 21, 2013, gathering at Ponger-Kays-Grady Funeral Home, 50 N. Hillsborough Ave., Arcadia. Burial will be at Oak Ridge Cemetery in Arcadia. Online condolences can be made at www.pongerkaysgrady.com.
