Michael P. “Mike” Payne, 36, passed away peacefully Wednesday, Sept. 18, 2013, at home, with his family by his side.

He was born Jan. 22, 1977, in Bartow, Fla., and moved to Arcadia, Fla., in 1978 with his family from Fort Meade, Fla.

He was of the Baptist faith, and was a member of First Baptist Church of Arcadia. To know Mike was to love him. He fought a long, hard battle with cancer. Mike’s biggest concern has always been for his children, family and friends. He is going to be sorely missed by all.

Michael worked as a corrections officer at GEO; he was an active member of B.P.O.E Elks Lodge 1524 in Arcadia, where he loved singing karaoke with everyone. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing and cooking, and was a huge FSU fan.

Mike is survived by his wife, Sara George Payne of Arcadia; four children, sons, Austin L. Payne of Bradenton, Fla., and Logan M. Payne of Bethel Springs, Tenn.; and daughters, Sidney Payne of Bradenton, and Gracie Payne of Arcadia; parents, Lee E. (Oaurilee) Payne and Mary Ann (Joe Best) Bushy, all of Arcadia; two brothers, Steven F. (Kim Roberts) Payne of Arcadia, and Joseph W. (Sky) Payne of Bradenton; sister, Tammy Horner of Punta Gorda, Fla.; stepbrother, John Curtis of Virginia; stepsisters, Jennifer Hall, Corla Cisneros, Sara Curtis and Gail Dungerow, all of Arcadia; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A visitation of family and friends will be held from 5 p.m. until the Funeral Services at 7 p.m. today, Friday, Sept. 20, 2013, at the chapel of Ponger-Kays-Grady Funeral Homes, 50 N. Hillsborough Ave., Arcadia. Pastor Matt Clayton will officiate. A Celebration of Michael’s life will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 29, 2013, at the Arcadia Moose Lodge. Please come and bring a covered dish.

In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made in care of Carl Gause at the Arcadia Moose Lodge, 1121 W. Oak St., Arcadia, FL 34266. Online condolences can be made at www.pongerkaysgrady.com.

Arrangements are by Ponger-Kays-Grady Funeral Homes, Arcadia.
