Winston Ray Proctor, Sr.

Winston Ray Proctor, Sr., 73, affectionately known as “WR” and “Gator,” of Arcadia, Fla., passed away Saturday, Feb. 16, 2013, in Arcadia.

He was born Feb. 10, 1940, in Pedro, Fla., settling in Arcadia from Pedro in 1969.

WR was an entrepreneur. He owned and operated a plant nursery and was active in many other worthwhile activities. WR loved the outdoors, raising plants, and gardening. He enjoyed going to yard sales, doing Bar-B-Ques, swimming, and spending quality time with his grandchildren. WR was of the Catholic faith.

Winston is survived by his beloved wife, Mary D. Proctor; son, Christopher Mahon Proctor, Arcadia; daughters, Dana Campbell, Teresa (Tony) Raines, Sherri (Tim) Welch, all of Arcadia, and Janice (Lee) Martin, New Johnsonville, Tenn.; brother-in-law, Al “Fred” (Michelle) Purvis, Ft. Myers, Fla.; nephew, Barry “Boots” (Brenda Traxler) Proctor, Citra, Fla.; 25 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, S.J. and Clarabell Swergen Proctor; son, Winston Ray Proctor, Jr.; and brother, Samuel J. Proctor.

A Memorial Service will be conducted at 2 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 23, 2013, at the chapel of Ponger-Kays-Grady Funeral Home, 50 No. Hillsborough Avenue, Arcadia, FL, with the Rev. Peter Garcia officiating. Online condolences may be made at www.pongerkaysgrady.com.
