City council mulls one more year
ARCADIA — The Arcadia City Council is setting itself up for an ugly fight if it follows the advice of the Charter Review Committee by delaying city elections one year to be concurrent with national and county elections, thus, in effect giving the current council members another year in office.
Reporting the committee’s recommendations, City Attorney T.J. Wohl addressed seven points, including changing the city recorder’s title to city clerk, setting term limits for council members and changing the city marshal from an elected position to an appointed police chief. But the recommendation that elicited the most comments was the election change, which, according to the attorney, can be done with just an ordinance vote by the council.
