Neil Richardson (orange shirt), a senior, receives the "Do the Right Thing" award from DeSoto County School Superintendent Adrian Cline. Richardson stepped up on Sept. 11 when Veterans Honor Guard bugler Roger Bumgarner's trumpet stopped working. Richardson, even though he had never played "Taps" before, and even though he was not a trumpet player in the band, stepped forward and played the mournful tune, entirely on his own. With him are his grandparents. He was nominated for the award by DCHS band director Kevin Durfee.
