Valentine’s Day didn’t start out so rosy
Valentine's Day has also been linked to the early Greco-Roman holiday Lupercalia allegedly devoted to love and fertility, but early Christian martyrologies say there were no links to the pagan rituals, and early Valentinists were focused on sacrifice rather than romance.

The original Valentine was a third century martyr, according to most Catholic references known at Valentinus.
For most of us, St. Valentine’s Day, Feb. 14, is all about love, hearts and flowers. It’s a day we remember our beloved and shower them with love tokens, flowers, cards and candy.
But, it didn’t start out so rosy.
