Two Bartowans going to Senior Games in Cleveland

Two Bartow residents will be competing in the Polk County national Senior Games that will take place in Cleveland, Ohio, from July 21 to Aug. 1.

James Harrison, who will compete in bowling, and Bob Pfeiffer, who will compete in track and field, are among the 37 Polk County athletes who will compete. There are more than 10,000 people competing in the national event that has 500 people from Florida in the 19 sports participating.

Women’s volleyball
has summer camp

The Polk State College women’s volleyball team hosts a summer camp for youth players 9 to 18.

The camp is scheduled for July 29 to 31 in the Health Center on Polk State’s Winter Haven campus.

Camp for players 15 to 18 is conducted from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., while camp for players ages 9 to 14 is 1:30 to 4:30 p.m.

The camp will be conducted by Polk State’s veteran coaching staff and will emphasize fundamentals involved with specific volleyball skills and positions, including passing, serving, ball control, hitting, defense, setting, game situations, blocking, skill review and tournament play.

The fee is $90.

Polk State’s volleyball team has enjoyed unprecedented success in recent years, under the leadership of head coach German DelValle.
