On May 23 the Bartow High School Lady Jackets held its annual softball banquet which was attended by 200 plus people.
Coach Glenn Rutenbar started off the night by thanking various helpers and supporters of the program, then moved on to speak about the junior varsity team that went 13-2 this year.
The JV’s two losses both came to Auburndale and were by one run each time.
Defensive Player of the Year: Jasmine Lovietek
Most Improved Players of the Year: Mallory Goin and Lexy Cables
Offensive Player of the Year: Bali Robinson
Coaches Award: Erica Mincey
Top Pitchers of the Year: Hope Brannan and Vangie Futch
The agenda then moved on to the Varsity who ended the year at 24-4. The team set a BHS home run record with 17 which were hit by six different players. They won their 18th district championship while having a cumulative grade point average of 3.281 which ranked 12th in the state and number one in the county, the coach said.
Awards presented were:
Offensive Players of the Year: Cheyenne Blaha and Lexi Sims
Most Improved: Brianah Green
Coaches Award: Alex Mace
Senior and Captain Awards: Rachael Imig, Cheyenne Blaha and Lauren West
In addition the three seniors each received scholarship money from the Bob Fitzgerald Scholarship and the Angels in the Outfield Scholarship. Perhaps the highlight was the announcement that all three seniors will enter the BHS Softball Hall of Fame
Receiving the Varsity Letters were: Vangie Futch, Jasmine Locke, Alex Mace, Lexi Sims, Kaycee Twomey, Meredith McGinnis, Taylor Sturgill, Delaney Wright , Brianah Green, Stefani Walls and Chelsea King
Receiving pins for their second year on the varsity were: Mackenzie Brown, Britteny Meadows, Tonee Fabrizi, Taylor Pittman, Brooke Farrer, Emiley Delldonne
Receiving pins for their third year on the varsity: Deeann Davis
Many of the Jackets are playing summer travel ball and Rutenbar announced that when school starts back up there will be two Bartow Intimidators travel ball teams that will play in the fall.
