Bartow’s Rose Stevens (Mulberry) and Lakeland’s Maggie Roberts (Lake Gibson) of Polk State College were named to the FCSAA All State Softball First Team, it was announced Thursday at the FCSAA/NJCAA Atlantic and Gulf District 8B Tournament banquet in Pensacola.
In addition, Polk’s sophomore outfielder Kylee Stearns (Lakeland/Kathleen) along with freshman catcher Stephanie Koutsoumbaris (Palm Harbor) and freshman pitcher Taylor Bowen (Gainesville/Santa Fe) were named to the FCSAA All State Second Team.
The ninth-ranked Eagles (38-17) opened the tournament Friday against sixth-ranked Northwest Florida (39-14).
They are attending the state tournament for the third time in five years under coach Jeff Ellis.
Stevens broke the Polk State record for steals with 58 stolen bases in 57 games, ranking her fifth in the NJCAA.
The leadoff batter also set a school record for hits with 91.
Roberts led the Eagles with a .477 average, a team record 23 doubles and a team-high eight home runs. The clean-up hitter drove in 50 runs and was second on the team in hits with 83.
Bowen, a right-handed hurler was 16-10 with a 1.17 ERA for the ninth-ranked Eagles (38-17).
In 172 innings, she fanned 182, ranking her 16th in the NJCAA.
Bowen threw a no-hitter in an 8-3 victory over St. Johns River State College on Feb. 16.
Bowen tied the school record for strikeouts with 14 on Feb. 27 against Oakland Community College of Michigan at home in Winter Haven.
Koutsoumbaris hit .400 for the Eagles in the No. 3 spot. She was one RBI (66) short of the school record. She fanned just eight times in 195 at bats. She also pounded six home runs and 16 doubles in 57 games.
Behind the plate she threw out 10 of 12 potential base stealers and posted a .982 fielding percentage.
Stearns, who was a Suncoast Conference First Team member, hit .384 for the Eagles and tied the school record with nine doubles.
