Ferguson/Thomas catch nearly 11 pounds of bass

Luke Ferguson and Ryan Thomas show the nearly 11 pounds of fish they caught.


No that isn't three arms, Jacob Rogers shows the bass he caught May 4. He also hooked the big bass weighing 6.15 pounds.


The Florida BASS Nation Youth Program awarded its first two college scholarships to Mike Boswell from the Lakeland Junior Bassmasters, and Brendan Rourke from the Florida Trail Junior Bassmasters. Boswell, who attends Polk State College, received a $500 scholarship, while Rourke, who will attend UCF in the fall, won a $250 scholarship.

Senior Sting Tournament on Lake Kissimmee Saturday May 11

Eighteen anglers competed.


First: Luke Ferguson and Ryan Thomas 10 lbs 14 oz

Second: Shane Hines and Jarod Gadd 7 lbs 4 oz.

Third: Hunter Gadd and Shane Moss 4 lbs 11 oz

Fourth: Steven Singletary and Micah Patel 4 lbs 7 oz

Fifth: Place Kaitlyn Boswell and Gabe Gelb 4 lbs 5 oz

Big Bass Honors: Ryan Thomas 5 lbs 4 oz

43 launched from
Lake Rochelle

Forty-three Lakeland Jr. Bassmasters, the team’s largest field yet, launched from Lake Rochelle on the Winter Haven Chain, Saturday, May 4. The anglers fished Rochelle and Haines with rattle traps being the dominant lure of the day. Ben Jenkins and Jacob Rogers won for each of their divisions placing both in the top five for Angler of the Year races.


11-14 year olds:

First: Ben Jenkins, 8.35 lbs

Second: Jackson Williams, 6.6 lbs

Third: Logan Hill, 6.35 lbs

Fourth: Joseph Esgro, 5.4 lbs

Fifth: Kyle Sheffield, 5.05 lbs

Big bass - tie between Kyle Sheffield and Ben Jenkins with 3.95 lbs

15-18 year olds:

First: Jacob Rogers, 10.55 lbs and big bass of 6.15 lbs

Second: Ryan Thomas, 10.10 lbs

Third: Cole Schmucker, 9.9 lbs

Fourth: Luke Ferguson, 8.9 lbs

Fifth Chandler Cornelius, 8.15 lbs

Next tournament is the FL B.A.S.S. Federation Nation Jr State Championship on Okeechobee, June 22-23, followed by Kissimmee on July 13. For club or tournament information, go to www.lakeland or call club president Martin Bozeman at 863-640-8349.

Jackets split at the Clash

Jackets had a split squad on Saturday, March 30, half the team competed in the Bass Nation High School Series on Toho, the other half competed in the BHS Jackets Tournament Trail Clash on Crooked.

Jackets scheduled the Clash on Crooked last August, President Ryan Thomas and other Jackets wanted to keep that commitment. Cindy at Bob’s Landing supports us.

Clash on Crooked results:

Champions: Ryan Thomas and Steven Singletary 9 pounds, 9 ounces.

Second Place: Shane Hines and Hunter Gadd, 9 pounds.

Third Place: Austin Anderson and Jarod Gadd 4 pounds, 14 ounces.

Fourth Place: Cole Schmucker and Robert Wiggins 4 pounds, 12 ounces.

Big Bass Honors: Ryan Thomas 4 pounds, 10 ounces.
