Christine Machold

Christine Machold, 90, died Dec. 9 at her residence due to natural causes.

She was born July 23, 1922, in Woodville, Fla. and raised in Bartow, Fla.

She graduated from Summerlin Institute in 1940. She attended Florida Southern College and earned a bachelor’s degree in education in 1951.

Mrs. Machold retired from Highland City Elementary School in 1987 after more than 30 years of teaching.

She was a member of Beta Sigma Phi and the Lakeland Woman’s Club. She was a volunteer at the Polk County Museum of Art and Sun ‘n’ Fun events. Christine had great love for books and was an avid reader. She loved to travel and laughed about being on every continent, except Antarctica.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Clarence and Lola Floyd of Bartow, Fla.; First husband Earl J. Pierce; Second husband Jack Machold.

She is survived by three children, Gayle, Doug, and Ann; one granddaughter, Emily; sister Betty Ambrose.

A private interment service will be held at a future date.
