BHS student wins top 10 award at national conference

Winners of the James E. Stephens Elementary 2013 Spelling Bee are Kindergarten: First place; Trey St. Lois, Second place Anthony Leon. First Grade: First place Dayana Avalos; Second place Olyvia Rasmussen. Second grade: First place Samuel Garcia, Second place Juan Hurtado. Third Grade: First place Terrance Burgess, Second place Esequiel Castillo. Fourth Grade: First place Ana Romero, Second place Brianna Everett. Fifth Grade: First place Nicholas Satterfield, Second place Jalandra Patterson.


James E. Stephens Elementary ended its school year with their annual Bicycle drawing. During the school year, students are rewarded for good behavior throughout the month and at the end of the month, students take part in an activity to celebrate their good behavior. A name is drawn at the end of the school year from each grade level for a new bike. This year’s winners are from, from left: Nick Wetherington, Adan Ramirez, Damien Haley, Luis Perez-Duarte, Dayana Avalos, Damarion Jones and Markiesha and Marquise Atwater.

Bartow High’s Robert Gerber was among the county’s students who earned a top 10 finish in the Phi Beta Lambda National Leadership Conference in June in Anaheim, Calif.

His team finished 10th for the Professional Clothes Closet, a community service project that provides students with work-appropriate attire. Alicia Cunningham of Lakeland and Nathan Herbig of Eagle Lake were also on the team.
