It’s the Dog Days of Summer here today. Come meet the newest addition to our Paws to Read program – Shelby, a Great Dane, of Therapy Dogs, International. Read aloud to her and receive a free book. Shelby will be in the Children’s Department the third Saturday of every month. The next visit will be June 15 at 10:30 a.m.

Join us this summer for eight weeks of fun. Three to five-year-olds meet on Tuesdays in June at 10 a.m. and feature stories, finger plays, music and films. Six to 8-year-olds meet on Tuesdays in June at 3 p.m. and feature stories, music, games, crafts and films. ON Thursdays those 18 months-2 meet Thursdays in June at 10 a.m. and feature nursery rhymes, finger plays, music and bubbles.

The Polk Works Mobile One-Stop Bus will be outside our library on Tuesday from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. The unit allows individuals to search for jobs online, prepare resumes and submit applications for open positions. All Polk Works services are free of charge. The Mobile One-Stop unit has a full computer lab to assist job-seekers.

For information call 863-508-1100.

Our second Super Summer Show will be Wednesday with Wonderful World of Bats. You can meet some live Florida bats and learn why they are so important to the health of our ecosystem. This is presented by the Florida Bat Conservancy and sponsored by the Friends of the Library. All the super summer shows are designed for school-aged children, ages 6 and older. Children younger than 6 are allowed but we do ask that the parent stay with them.

Nine to 12-year-olds will be meeting Thursday at 3 p.m. for Mad Science. In keeping with the theme of digging in to read, we will be making fossil imprints. We do ask that you call ahead to pre-register so we can have enough supplies.

Let’s play Teen Feud! Thursday afternoon at 3 p.m. teens will go head to head in this fun competition.

Next Saturday is a movie day. We will be showing “Oz: The Great and Powerful” at 2:30 p.m. This movie is rated PG and runs 130 minutes.
